A Blustery Day 4 with the Fam

My dad is sort of a good luck charm when it comes to weather while traveling. Something I really appreciated while they were here. We really only had one weather day (that I remember) and that was when we headed up into the hills to visit Linderhof. The following picture shows how a retired UPS employee stays warm and dry in the snow. Stylish, no?

Ok, so Linderhof. This was another one of Ludwig II's homes, although much smaller than the others.

This was another one of the many times that I am glad I speak German. The tour was done in both languages. The lady would first enlighten the German-speaking tourists with great detail about each room and a story or so when necessary. Then, my family would get their part, the English part. However, my relatives soon pointed out that either it takes twice as long to say things in German, or their version of the tour was being greatly abridged. It was the second. The gist was the same though. He was obsessed with Versailles and was "best buds" with Wagner.

Then, after a bit of souvenir shopping and a Glühwein to ward off the cold, we were back in the cars and went down to Oberammergau, the site of the famous Passion Play, to poke around.

We had a yummy lunch, which included Speck for my dad (he was a fan), and headed back to the cars.
I had a strange little interchange with an elderly man back at the cars who thought, based on our license plates, that we were from Wiesbaden. I kindly explained to him that they were simply rental cars and we are actually from the States. I then asked him if he was from Wiesbaden. The frail old man started tearing up and shared he was from somewhere near there and that he came here many years ago. He said he came there not "the right way". I didn't press further, mainly because I don't like to see cute old men cry, but it was a little sad. I wish I knew what he meant by that.

Anyways, we climbed back in the cars and were off to Füssen to see Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

We got there ok, but had some trouble at the castle. However, that story is going to get its own post.

After our time in Füssen, we headed back to the small town near our hotel and had some yummy Greek food, complete with multiple types of free alcohol they kept bringing us.
